SMOKING
25Sep10
Every parent's worse nightmare is finding out your child smoke. (Even if you smoke as well) Why? Because everyone knows the affect on the body of smoking, the fact it is addictive and most of time teenagers smoke because of peer pressure.
About a year ago, I found my son hanging out his window smoking. I was not happy. But instead of shouting at him, I decided to take a more tactful approach and speak to him about it. Obviously, being a teenage, chatting is not his forte, but I did mange to get across to him that it is an expensive habit and most probably he doesn't really enjoy it.
Here are a few tips I think may come in handy if you are in the same situation
1. Explain how expensive smoking is
2. Explain that it's better never to start smoking as it can lead to addiction
3. The dangers to health
4. And, if you smoke, give up - children from non-smoking homes are much less likely to take up the habit
